Academy Sports opening three new stores in Q2
Academy Sports + Outdoors is continuing to work toward its goal of opening 20-25 new stores during 2025.
The Texas-based sporting goods and outdoor recreation retailer, which surpassed 300 locations and opened its first stores in Pennsylvania and Maryland during the first quarter of 2025, plans to have an additional three new stores opened by the end of the current quarter.

So far during the second quarter of 2025, Academy Sports has opened new locations in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Midlothian, Va., and will open another new store in Morgantown, W.V. later in June. Combined, the three new stores are expected to bring nearly 200 total new jobs to their local communities.

During 2025 to date, Academy Sports has opened seven new stores in six states. The retailer opened 16 new stores in 10 different states in 2024, including its first locations in Ohio, and 14 new stores across six different states in 2023.
Academy stores offer apparel, footwear, sports and camping equipment, hunting and fishing gear, outdoor cooking and more from top national brands as well as the chain’s private label brands. In addition, Academy offers free services such as grill and bike assembly, scope mounting, bore sighting, line winding/spooling and propane exchange. Hunting and fishing licenses are also available to purchase in stores.
Originally founded in 1938 as a family business in Texas, Academy Sports + Outdoors has grown to more than 300 stores across 21 states, with expansion to more states planned.
