  • Food and bed highlight OKC center’s expansion

Three restaurants and a hotel claimed four of the seven new out-parcels The Market at Czech Hall in Oklahoma City.   Developer GBT Realty announced that Hooters, Arby’s, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, and Sleep Inn have signed leases at the 160,000-sq.-ft. “regional neighborhood center” on Interstate 40.
  • Burlington to open in Sears hole at Magnolia Mall

PREIT announced that it has fully leased the space vacated by Sears at Magnolia Mall, nine months after the store closed shop at the Florence, South Carolina, property.   Burlington opens in a 46,000-sq.-ft. space there this week. It will be joined by HomeGoods (20,000 sq. ft.) and Five Below (8,500 sq. ft.) in the spring. Also slated to open at that time is a 20,000-sq.-ft. H&M store.
  • Herberger’s backfills Macy’s hole in LaCrosse

Herberger’s has moved to a new location at the Valley View Mall in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, “right-sizing” to a 100,000-sq.-ft. space in a spot recently vacated by Macy’s. Herberger’s was the sixth tenant to backfill vacant department store space at a PREIT-owned mall this year.
  • Old Navy joins historic makeover in Michigan

Presidential candidate John F. Kennedy delivered a stump speech there not long after it opened in 1960. Legions of thriving General Motors employees kept it thriving for decades. But Tech Plaza in Warren, Michigan, suffered a crushing blow when Walmart left in 2008, and the center was nearly vacant when Detroit-based Petzold Enterprises acquired it in 2014.
  • Marshalls expands in Maryland

A new Marshalls location will co-anchor the Shoppes at Apple Greene in Dunkirk, Maryland, along with Harris Teeter, according to center owners Echo Realty and Marrick Partners.   The 21,000-sq.-ft. location will be Marshalls’ first in Calvert County, due south of Baltimore, where Marshalls operates two stores.   The 48,000-sq.-ft. Harris Teeter store is under construction at Apple Greene, a new 100,000-sq.-ft. center with an additional 30,000 sq. ft. available for lease.
  • PREIT’s version of ‘That’s Entertainment’

Dining and entertainment square footage continues to replace that of department stores in PREIT’s mall portfolio.   Last week the Philadelphia-based developer announced that it had signed leases to fill vacated Sears space at two of its properties. Five Below and an unnamed off-price furniture retailer will join Burlington in the former Sears at the Magnolia Mall in Florence, South Carolina.
  • Eight new tenants destined for Easton Town Center

More than 50,000 sq. ft. of new shopping opportunities will soon be presented to shoppers at Ohio’s most popular retail destination.   Easton Town Center, which draws 21 million customer visits a year and houses more than 200 shopping and dining options is constantly in the process of re-curating its mix, and eight new tenants will open at the Columbus venue this year.
  • Tenants fill new Publix center in North Carolina

The Southeast’s leading grocery chain will be opening a new center in the state where it has its least exposure, and leasing activity is brisk.   Broker La Purser & Associates reported the signing of four tenants at a planned Publix-anchored center in Harrisburg, North Carolina. Smoothie King, Sports Clips, Avalon Spa & Nails, and dental office have committed to the 67,200-sq.-ft. Harris Square, set to open in 2018.
